Dear members,
I am writing this email to you in important circumstances that concern the future of our club.
Arctic is a crossroads in its history, and we stand at intersection that could take the club into its next phase of existence, or see the club close its doors. It is the intention of the current executive committee, to depart the club at the end of this season, leaving the club without a committee to steer it into the future. We have given almost a decade to the club and it is time to move on.
To ensure the future of the club, we are looking for a number of individuals to join our committee prior to the conclusion of the Summer 2019/20 season, whereby we can exercise a handover of roles and responsibilities for the Autumn/Winter season. We are prepared to hand over in an ordered manner facilitating stepping down formally at the Annual General Meeting.
We note that the responsibilities are not large. We don’t organise the competition (this is our association), we don’t organise referees (also our association). We just enter teams into the competition and facilitate training. However it requires time and dedication.
As such, we formally request your attendance at a “town hall” forum to discuss the future of Arctic Water Polo Club.

If we cannot source enough volunteers to take over the committee and hand over responsibility, then this will result in circumstances which will remove the majority support required to legally constitute an ‘incorporated association’ in NSW, and the club will wind up.
If you are interested in more information, a short history is below.
This is not an ultimatum from the executive. Sometimes the natural evolution of an organisation is to wind up – everything has its time. Though perhaps in this case, the community will find some energy in the form of new leadership that can take the club forward.
If you have any concerns about the above, or would like to discuss this, you can email us at alex@arctic.asn.au or daniela@arctic.asn.au, or call Alex on 0425 251 204.
We look forward to your RSVP.
Kind Regards,

A short history

  1. Arctic was formed in 2010, and its original name was ‘Abu Dhabi Water Polo Club’. For fairly humorous reasons that can be saved for the annals of history, the name was changed in 2012 to Arctic Water Polo Club. At this time we absorbed Caringbah Water Polo Club’s junior teams. The inaugural committee was Alex Mednis, Tim Matthews, Nick Bentley and Lauren Simonson.
  2. We have seen the growth from the original 13 members, to over 260 at our height.
  3. We have been club champions twice in our short history, and won 44 medals.
  4. Alex has served as the Treasurer of the club, Secretary, and is the incumbent President, holding office since 2013. Daniela has served as our General Manager of High Performance since 2015, and is the incumbent Treasurer, holding office since 2019.
  5. We have the largest opens division of any club, and in the last few seasons, have made up half or more than half of the competition!
  6. We conduct training on Wednesday nights at Caringbah Leisure Centre, and have done this since our first season.
  7. We have produced a high number of metropolitan and state players from our club, and broke the “mold” that you needed to be from particular clubs to be selected for metropolitan competition.
  8. We were the club that was told – it is too hard, impossible to start a club at this time. We are now the second largest club.
